Camino de Santiago

A walking pilgrimage through Spain
for youth and adults

June 7 - 20, 2022

Discover your own camino on this amazing pilgrimage

The Camino de Santiago, or Way of St. James, is a walking pilgrimage across Spain to the city of Santiago.

Join other pilgrims from around the globe as you all make your way on the ancient path to visit the holy site of St. James.

Camino de Santiago

Peregrinos have walked the Camino de Santiago since the 9th Century, when the tomb of the apostle St. James was discovered in what is today Santiago de Compostela.

Pilgrims from all over the world have walked St. James' Way, seeking to grow closer to God and discover themselves.

With each step along the well-worn St. James’ Way, pilgrims seek to learn about themselves and their relationship with God, finding strength in that mystical echo of the millions of others who have traveled the path before them.

Pilgrimage is a private experience of faith, mirroring the Christian life

The journey mirrors the struggles, challenges, joys, fellowship, and many days, the simple perseverance.

A moderately paced, but exciting pilgrimage

Six days of walking and 72 miles of trail will take you to the heart of the cathedral to see the relics of James the Apostle.

Your tour also includes travel to other important religious sites in Madrid, Avila, and Salmanca.

Two pilgrimages. One journey.

Youth Pilgrimage

High school youth will travel with our youth minister Alex Cato and our youth leaders. Each night they’ll enjoy special programming and reflection time together. The monetary cost for youth is $500, with the rest of the fee being covered by the Clark Fund.

Adult Pilgrimage

An adult pilgrimage will led by The Rev. Sally Johnson, a former rector of St. Martin’s, with its own programming, prayer, and reflection.

One body, one church.

Meals, buses, accommodations, and fellowship time will be shared by both groups traveling together. All pilgrims will earn their compostela together, the official certificate of completion from the Spanish government.

Frequently Asked Questions

+ When can I register?

REGISTRATION AVAILABLE NOW! Visit the link on this page to complete the registration.

+ What does it cost?

Youth

The cost is $500 per youth, to be put toward airfare. The rest of the trip is paid for by the Clark Fund, a youth-centered endowment of St. Martin's. Youth are expected to participate fully in the life and ministry of the church, attend the majority of youth groups, and all fundraisers.

Adults

** Pricing is based on room occupancy. Below are the per-person rates:

Single (1 person per room): $3,999

Double (2 persons per room): $2,949

Triple (3 persons per room): $2,775

Note: airfair is not included.

+ I'm a parent of a youth going on the pilgrimage. Can I go too?

Yes! Parents are welcome to join the pilgrimage, too! The pilgrimage will have a mix of large-group all-age programming as time divided between the two groups. Your presence will not inhibit your child's experience, nor will it distract from your own.

+ What is the registration deadline?

Registrations received by February 28, 2022 will guaranteed placement. Any registrations after that are subject to availability.

+ I understand this is a walking pilgrimage. Is it strenuous?

Participants should be able to easily walk two to three miles, which may include climbing one or two flights of stairs and walking over uneven pavement, groomed hiking trails or cobblestones. Standing up to one hour or more may be required.

The journey is moderately paced, and may include some early morning hotel departures, two international flights, and extended travel times in the motor coach.

Unfortunately the itinerary cannot accommodate wheelchairs or motorized scooters.

+ Will I have to carry my own luggage? Is this like backpacking?

Your luggage will be bussed each day between the destinations for you. You may walk with simply the clothes on your back and a waterbottle, if you wish.

Those who register will receive a suggested packing list closer to our departure date.

+ What happens if I can't walk the full way?

Each day, buses and taxis will be available to the group at set locations in the event you cannot walk the full distance for any reason. You will be transported to that day's accomodations where you'll wait for the other pilgrims to arrive.

+ If I have questions or need more information, how should I contact you?

Send Rev. Caitlyn Darnell an email using our online contact form.
