Fall Adult Formation Classes

We’ve got new adult formation classes meeting this Fall! More information below.

The Friendship of Women

Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m.

This class will focus on the book The Friendship of Women, by Joan Chittister, beginning Sunday, September 24th, at 9:15 a.m. in the Garden Room, and running through Sunday, November 5th. The book covers six women in the narrative of scripture as well as the qualities and necessities of female friendship. All are welcome, but the focus will be on women’s experience specifically. The class will be led by Amy Montanez and Susan Prinz. If interested, contact Susan Prinz.

About the book:

“Looking deeply into biblical stories of female friendships in order to extract greater truths, this compelling work explores the sacred dimension of friendship through the lenses of faith, tradition, and scripture, revealing the often overlooked voices and experiences of women in the Old and New Testaments.”

This class is held in the Garden Room in the Commons.

The Theology of Fellowship

Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m.

This companion class to “The Friendship of Women” meets Sundays at 9:15 a.m. in St Luke’s Studio. Led by Rev. Mitch, this class explores friendship and relationship as a Christian spiritual practice.

We Cry Justice

Sundays at 6:00 p.m.

You are invited to this ongoing study each Sunday at 6:00 p.m. We will begin meeting again on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. in St Luke’s Studio to resume our study with Chapter 31, Blame the Poor or Judge the Rich?, by Liz Theoharis.

In We Cry Justice, Liz Theoharis, co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, is joined by pastors, community organizers, scholars, low-wage workers, lay leaders, and people in poverty to interpret sacred stories about the poor seeking healing, equity, and freedom. Organized into fifty-two chapters, each focusing on a key Scripture passage, We Cry Justice offers comfort and challenge from the many stories of the poor taking action together.

E-mail Paul Palmer for more information. While the content of this book is from the Christian and Jewish scriptures, this study is open to others from other faith traditions, or no faith at all.

This class is held in St. Luke’s Studio of the Commons Building.

Young Adult Bible Study

Every 1st and 3rd Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in St. Luke's Studio in the Commons. St. Martin's is hosting a young adult Bible study on the Gospel of Luke! The study will follow an eight-week course created by Yale Divinity School. We have Bibles for you to borrow if you need one. All studies are self-contained, so we'd love to have you for any or all sessions. Click here for more information and to sign up. Contact Jake Brown for questions
