This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I love South Carolina springs. The weather has been truly great and I am very excited to do our 5 p.m. service outside this week on The Point. The music will be incredible and the atmosphere will be fun and good.
For St. Martin's, the last few summers have been a time of transition. For some of our families these transitions are both exciting and a bit scary as seniors in high school prepare to leave for college. On the other end of the spectrum, I have spoken with several members lately who are preparing for retirement. For them, it seems there is a both a sense of relief, but also the same sort of nervousness that comes with preparing for the unknown.
As an organization we are also preparing for some transitions. As you all read recently, Allison Askins is retiring after 15 years of service. St. Martin's has a small staff, and because of this, we work very closely together. Her presence will be missed. In the midst of the mourning that comes with a person moving on, there is also excitement. Excitement for Allison and Bob as they get ready to travel, and excitement for St. Martin's as we prepare to hire a new person to work in communications and development.
Excitement always comes with stepping into the unknown. It's in moments of transition that I often pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I pray for its presence, that it may lead and I may follow. Transitions can be hard, but hard does not mean bad. In fact, with God's blessing, I have found most transitions in both my life and my ministry have been good. So, this week I ask for your prayers for those in our community who stand on the precipice of something new. Please pray for seniors and their families, please pray for our retirees and their families, please pray for our church and for what will come next.
In Christ,
Mitch+
