This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I wish you all and especially all of our children a Happy Halloween! I hope and pray that everyone has a safe and fun weekend ahead. This Sunday night along with our 5 p.m. worship service we will also host our annual Trunk-or-Treat. from 4-7 p.m.
I will never forget our first Trunk-or-Treat. Patsy Myers dressed up as a witch, Lydia was a person taking a shower, and Lilly Lumpkin was Raggedy Ann. I recall a dog dressed as a taco and at least a dozen Batmans. That first year I was nervous. "Would anyone come?" I wondered. I nearly cried when I looked down the street and saw folks from the neighborhoods streaming in.
Years later some of the kids who were getting candy are now giving it out and the event has grown so large that we are using the Point instead of the parking lot. During COVID we made adjustments and still, the families came. Trunk-or-Treat has been a blessing, primarily in that it has led to so many meaningful interactions and relationships. Hundreds of people, from all walks of life come together to smile, play, and have fun in a safe and holy environment. There's nothing fancy about it, it's just simple fellowship and love. It resembles the Kingdom of God.
Come out and play! Host a trunk, dress up, and give out some candy. Make a child smile, make their parents laugh, and help make a memory. Bring your kids and let them run around with friends. Invite your family and friends. In a world where time flies by, providing some levity and a pause is indeed a ministry.
You're invited! Come on out.
In Christ,
Mitch
