This week’s pandemic update from MItch

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

In a positive light, we are entering into a new stage of this pandemic. More and more people are being vaccinated, allowing more things to open up. I was moved by a picture this week of one of our grandparents hugging her grandchild. It was a special hug indeed. On another hand, this week we prayed in our Prayers of the People for multiple COVID-related deaths. Early in the pandemic, St. Martin's was, for the size of our organization, very lightly touched by COVID. Perhaps it is simply the law of averages, but now it seems like things are equaling out. Our need for safety remains as strong as ever.

As more and more people are vaccinated, Caitlyn and I have begun to meet and discuss opening up opportunities for worship and fellowship at the church. We are putting together a plan to re-work our "television studio" space in the church to allow for larger in-person attendance while also continuing to provide the Livestream. While social distancing will still need to be practiced, and diocesan guidance will still need to be followed, we are actively preparing for when the restrictions will be loosened.

As you can see, the reality of "Two COVIDs" is alive and well. There are those who are vaccinated who are feeling a sense of relief, and those who are waiting for their turn in line. In the midst of this reality, I encourage you to pray about ways you can serve Christ in the world. In the midst of these two realities, people still need phone calls and cards of support. In the midst of these two realities, people still need help, love, and care. In Caitlyn's sermon this past Sunday, she spoke about how the "church" at this time is made up of each us, brick by brick. I think the same is true for the church's mission. Do good in the name of your faith. Make an uplifting call in the name of your God. Do something good in the name of your church, for you are the church, Christ's hands and feet in the world.

 In Christ,

Mitch+
