What is a Parish Nurse?
Parish nurses provide care to faith communities, emphasizing the relationship between faith and health. Specific nursing activities address physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being, closely attending to the inseparability of these dimensions. Parish nurses promote the holistic health and well-being of individuals, families, and groups within the faith community.
What kind of work will Cynthia do here at St. Martin’s?
Cynthia will have the freedom to minister to parishioners in a holistic manner, providing health educator/counselor/advocate/advisor services as well as spiritual care. This will allow for a unique relationship between the parishioner and Cynthia, as the parish nurse. With care provided within the context of the faith community, parishioners will be encouraged to discuss deeper aspects of life that impact their health. Cynthia will assist individuals in achieving higher levels of wellness by making recommendations for improvement for both physical and spiritual health concerns.
