This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I hope and pray that you are well. I am looking forward to tomorrow night and Bluegrass on the Point! Come bring a picnic, dance, listen and play.
This week the 81st General Convention of the Episcopal Church begins. Over the next two weeks as a church some of our very best and worst tendencies will be on display. At our best, we will gather in worship and prayer. People with big hearts will discuss how we can be the church in a rapidly changing world. At our worst, the biases and politics of that world will play out. General Convention is, after all, attended by humans, not saints, and humans do human things.
Through it all I ask that you take a moment and say a few different prayers for your church. Let the first prayer be one of thanksgiving. Let's give thanks for Michael Curry and his ministry. He has been an amazing presiding bishop. He pushed us to be more loving, more open, and more caring. I am grateful for his leadership.
Also, say a prayer for the candidates running to replace him. They are all proven leaders and effective bishops. I pray the Spirit will guide us. Finally, pray for our diocese and our delegates, that their votes and work might help our church to spread the message of God's love.
In Christ,
Mitch
