This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our church's Kanuga Weekend is almost here. The dates are January 27-29. For new members, Kanuga Weekend is a time when we come together as a parish family and just unplug. We gather Friday afternoon/evening at Kanuga Camp and Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina. We usually gather for some welcoming activities with a great fireplace burning in the background. Hikes are planned, walks are taken, and meals are served. In the evenings, people are welcome to retreat to the various cabins for more social time and relaxing. We have activities planned for youth and children, but perhaps of equal importance is that we rent out the entire camp so there is plenty of space for them to run and be free. The scenery is beautiful and the crisp mountain air is refreshing.
This year we will have educational sessions taught by The Rev Chris Jilliard. Chris will be joining us to talk to our community about church growth and the changing dynamics that growing communities need to face. It will be a time for reflection and dreaming about our future. I am really excited and grateful for her expertise and her time.
Primarily our parish weekend is a time for parish members to get to know each other, and it's a time for families to bond and relax. The Bible calls times like this Sabbath. To keep the price affordable, the parish will pay for all of our youth members to come, and if cost is a problem, please reach out to me as scholarships are available. The deadline for signing up is Monday; the registration link is below, further down in this week's newsletter.
Kanuga is a special place and our parish weekend is a special time. In a world that seemingly moves so fast, having places to unplug, pray, and play is increasingly important. I hope you will consider joining us. All are welcome.
In Christ,
Mitch+
