This Week from Mitch
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I hope and pray that you are well. This past Sunday was Laetare or Rose Sunday. If you didn't notice, the altar, which typically has no flowers during Lent, was adorned with beautiful pink roses, and we wore our pink vestments. In ages past, this 4th Sunday of Lent was a reminder during a penitential time and a time of fasting that Easter was coming. It was a reminder that Lent's soul-searching work would pay off and lead us to a higher purpose. On Laetare Sunday and in the following week (where we are now), we are reminded that drawing closer to the divine and our divine purposes are not one-off tasks but rather a process, and a part of the process is celebrating the gains we have achieved.
Our Lenten Fish Fries were never about the fish or the meal; they have always been about the community, and Caitlyn and I are deeply grateful that you all have come. We cook, we eat, we pray, and we clean up together, and in so doing, we draw closer to one another. We are deeply grateful.
On a personal note, with fish fries this week and next, we could use some extra help with cleanup. This weekend, Denise's parents are coming into town to watch Lydia and Noah run in a track meet called the Star Light Invitational. It is tomorrow night. I would love to be able to attend. I will help get the meal started, but would love to go cheer. Next week, Scott's parents are coming into town for family celebrations and birthdays! Caitlyn would love to be able to attend those. If you have thought about volunteering but haven't, we could really use the help for the last two. Click here to sign up. Family is important, and we could use an extra couple of hands so that we can be with ours.
In Christ,
Mitch
